【摘要】:1.1Thisguidecoversproceduresforobtaininglaboratorydataconcerningtheadverseeffectsofpotentiallycontaminatedsediment,orofatestmaterialaddedexperimentallytocontaminatedoruncontaminatedsediment,onmarineorestuarineinfaunalpolychaetesduring10-dayor20to28-dayexposures.Theseproceduresareusefulfortestingtheeffectsofvariousgeochemicalcharacteristicsofsedimentsonmarineandestuarinepolychaetesandcouldbeusedtoassesssedimenttoxicitytootherinfaunaltaxa,althoughmodificationsoftheproceduresappropriatetothetestspeciesmightbenecessary.Proceduresforthe10-daystatictestaredescribedforNeanthesarenaceodentataandNeanthesvirensandforthe20to28-daystatic-renewalsedimenttoxicityforN.arenaceodentata.1.2Modificationsoftheseproceduresmightbeappropriateforothersedimenttoxicitytestprocedures,suchasflow-throughorpartiallife-cycletests.Themethodsoutlinedinthisguideshouldalsobeusefulforconductingsedimenttoxicitytestswithotheraquatictaxa,althoughmodificationsmightbenecessary.Othertestorganismsmightincludeotherspeciesofpolychaetes,crustaceans,andbivalves.1.3Othermodificationsoftheseproceduresmightbeappropriateforspecialneedsorcircumstances.Althoughusingappropriateproceduresismoreimportantthanfollowingprescribedprocedures,theresultsoftestsconductedusingunusualproceduresarenotlikelytobecomparabletothoseofmanyothertests.Comparisonsoftheresultsobtainedusingmodifiedandunmodifiedversionsoftheseproceduresmightprovideusefulinformationconcerningnewconceptsandproceduresforconductingsedimenttestswithinfaunalorganisms.1.4Theseproceduresareapplicabletosedimentscontaminatedwithmostchemicals,eitherindividuallyorinformulations,commercialproducts,andknownorunknownmixtures.Theseprocedurescanbeusedwithappropriatemodificationstoconductsedimenttoxicitytestsonfactorssuchastemperature,salinity,dissolvedoxygen(DO),andnaturalsedimentcharacteristics(forexample,particlesizedistribution,organiccarboncontent,andtotalsolids).Theseprocedurescanalsobeusedtoconductbioconcentrationtestsandinsitutests,andtoassessthetoxicityofpotentiallycontaminatedfieldsediments,orofmaterialssuchassewagesludge,oils,particulatematter,andsolutionsoftoxicantsaddedtosediments.Amedianlethalconcentration(LC50)ormediansublethaleffectconcentration(EC50)oftoxicantsorofhighlycontaminatedsedimentmixedintouncontaminatedsedimentcanbedetermined.Materialsadheringtosedimentparticlesordissolvedininterstitialwatercanbetested.1.5Theresultsof10-daytoxicitytestswithcontaminatedsedimentscanbereportedasaLC50ifaseriesofconcentrationsistestedorasapercentmortalityrelativetoacontrolorreferencesediment.Theresultsof20to28-daytoxicitytestswithcontaminatedsedimentscanbereportedasaLC50ifaseriesofconcentrationsistestedorasapercentmortalityorgrowthrelativetoacontrolorreferencesediment.1.6Thisguideisarrangedasfollows:1.7ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.SpecifichazardsstatementsaregiveninSection8.
